The Arrival

The Arrival

Advent = Arrival

Whose?
The one we long for, the one we love
Our Maker, our Saviour, our God
In person
Not a text or a zoom call but in person, in Christ
Not empty-handed, but laden with gifts of love and life and joy and peace

How ever did getting ready for the arrival of our heart’s desire
Get replaced by preparing for Dec 25?
Don’t get me wrong, I love getting ready for Christmas -
Christmas memories sparkle as I dig out the wonky stable with the dinosaur sized camel,
My kitchen warm with oranges, drying for the tree,
But sometimes I miss the point
The soft glow of the Advent candle overpowered by flourescent consumer stress

It is good for me to remember that God arrived quietly,
Yes, there was an angelic choir but the audience was mostly sheep.
God didn’t ask for a Pinterest perfect home  -

just an open door.

God still arrives quietly – the Prince of Peace in person
Whose rule begins in our hearts and homes
The one we long for, the one we love.

Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.
