Confident

Confident

We don’t have to stay outside. The door is not blocked.

We don’t have to stay outside. The way to God is open.

We don’t have to stay outside. “We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus”.

(Hebrews 10:19)

But how could I, with all my sins and failings, enter the Most Holy Place? How could I enter the presence of God Almighty, before whom the angels cry, “Holy, Holy, Holy!”?

I hang back at the door, unsure of my welcome, forgetting that the Father gave all because he wanted me home with him, forgetting the precious promise that the blood of Christ cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

And then I hear the Father say, “Draw near, see I have made the way.”

God made a way to make us holy. And it isn’t just a clean up of the surface, like when you hide the dirty clothes in the cupboard or under the duvet because you want the place to look clean on the outside, knowing full well that what is needed is a deep clean!

This week, I read the line in Psalm 51 where David cries out to be cleansed of his sin - I discovered that the words translated as “cleanse me” are literally “unsin me”.

Unsin me. That’s what Jesus does, Jesus unsins us.

As we entrust all that we are to our Saviour, Jesus makes us holy so that we no longer come to a sign that says, “Danger! No entry!”

Instead, the sign says, “Draw near!”

We don’t have to stay outside. This is an invitation into the heart and love of God.  If you doubt this invitation is for you, then simply look at the Cross – here is the measure of how much the Father longs for you to enter the Most Holy Place and to dwell there forever.
